Sex abuse victims announce new lawsuit
|
Who we are:
We are sex abuse victims who were molested by clergy and who belong to a support group called SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAPnetwork.org)
Why we’re here:
Yesterday, the Sun Times disclosed that a controversial, convicted child-molesting clergyman is back in Chicago, working again for Cardinal Francis George, even though George was forced to oust him after media attention and public outrage in 2003.
Who is this predator?
He’s Fr. Kenneth J. Martin from Delaware. In 2003, the news media revealed that he lived a week each month in the Cardinal’s mansion and worked for the archdiocese, even though he pleaded guilty to molesting a boy in 2001.
Is he still a priest?
Last month, the Pope defrocked Martin, but George is still paying him.
Is he really a danger to children?
We think it is reckless to import a proven predator from elsewhere and let him work periodically in a church office (1800 N. Hermitage) next to an elementary school (St. Mary of the Angels).
Remember: it takes only seconds for a pedophile to violate a child. Why take the risk, especially when the archdiocese doesn’t adequately supervise the dozens and dozens of predator priests already here?
What you can do to help.
- Call the archdiocese and complain about Martin’s return, 312-751-8204
- Write the Pope about the Cardinal’s continuing recklessness, and
- Ask everyone you know (friends and family, current and ex-Catholics) if they saw, suspected, or suffered clergy sex crimes. Urge them to call therapists and police and our group. (We’re a confidential, free, independent support group for anyone molested by clergy.)
Thank you.
