WHAT:
At a sidewalk news conference, a prominent attorney and clergy sex abuse victims will announce, discuss and give out copies of a new civil child molestation lawsuit against a former Colorado priest
WHEN:
Tuesday, Aug. 23, 1:00 p.m.
WHERE:
Outside the Denver Catholic archdiocesan headquarters (John Paul II Center), 1300 South Steele (near Arizona St.), http://www.archden.org/map_jpii.php
WHO:
One victim, his attorney, and a Colorado man and an Illinois woman who were also assaulted by Catholic priests, including the founder and president of the nation's largest support group for such victims (called SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests)
WHY:
One of the victims is a 49 year old John Doe who was abused in Sterling and Loveland. The other, Brandon Trask, 49, was abused in Eagle County in the 1970s. Both were victimized by Father Harold Robert White, who still lives in Denver but has been defrocked by church officials for molesting kids. Both are being represented by Jeff Anderson of St. Paul Minnesota, who has spent the last 20+ years specializing in clergy sexual misconduct cases.
Trask, who WILL speak at the news conference, now lives in Long Beach CA. http://denverpost.com/news/ci_2890452
The suit, which charges the archdiocese with fraud, seeks unspecified damages.
White was ordained by the Archbishop of Denver in 1960. Over 33 years, he worked at 11 parishes in Colorado Springs, Sterling, Loveland, Minturn, Aspen, Wheat Ridge, Grand Lake, Steamboat Springs, Eagle, and Denver. For at least 20 of those 30 years, he stands accused of molesting children.
White reportedly first victimized a boy in approximately 1960-1963.
The lawsuit asserts that church officials "knew that White had sexually molested numerous children and that White was a danger to children."
Last week, two of White's victims - Tom Koldeway of Anchorage Alaska and Delbert Nielsen III of Carlsbad, N.M., - became the first of White's victims to file civil lawsuits against the ex-cleric and the archdiocese.
Koldeway is also represented by Anderson and attorney Tom Roberts of Denver (303 575 9396)
